One of my most influential job experiences of my adult life was working for the SLC Trails and Natural Lands Crew. This was a position with the Salt Lake City Parks and Rec Department.
During my time working for the city I was able to see first hand what it takes to maintain a city’s green spaces, public areas, and urban wilderness interfaces. While this job may have been more urban-focused than some of my other positions I was able to practically apply aspects of my experience with conservation to a more urban context.
I learned many new skills such as public interfacing, driving large trucks and equipment, and city park maintenance that have helped me in many other jobs since then. Being able to talk to a member of the public about the work I am doing has been invaluable as I advance in my career in the outdoor recreation and conservation world.
