During the 2025 season I have been working as a field crew member on a wilderness conservation crew on a Bureau of Land Management grant under the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA). SUWA is a conservation focused non-profit with the goal of protecting Utah’s public lands.

I worked on a crew that was tasked with implementing conservation efforts proposed by the Price BLM field office in the San Rafael Swell desert of Southern Utah.

This job has taken me to many places—new and exciting and familiar and loved—and taught me an immeasurable amount about conservation and land management.

This job required me to work long hours in many different seasons and conditions as well as camp for extended periods of time. This has allowed me to not only learn a lot about the permutations of the job but also what it takes to live and work in the wilderness.
